Value-Added Agriculture in the EATC

One of the most important industrial sectors in the EATC

Value-Added Agriculture is one of the most important industrial sectors in the EATC. The region holds many advantages for companies looking to invest in agricultural processing. The region has some of the best agricultural land in the world and is highly connected to markets:

  • EATC Northern Region contains over 3M cultivated acres spread over nine counties/M.Ds., which is 12% of Alberta’s total cultivated acres. The Northern Region also features several Applied Agri-Food Research facilities that serve as a catalyst for Value-Added Agriculture innovation, and a climatic and soil Northern Advantage for growing industrial hemp.
  • The EATC Southern Region has over 3,600 farms – not including the many non-farm establishments in the agri-food industry – with over 11.6 million acres in crop and pastureland and over $1.6 billion in livestock and poultry. The Southern Region also features Natural Resources like an average of 2,512 hours of sun per year and ample water resources including major irrigation systems that help power a robust agriculture sector.
  • The EATC is connected, via high load highways 36 and 41, linking our agriculture products and companies to major markets in the U.S. and Mexico. Our east/west highways provide access to Asian markets. Over 20 regional airports and the two national rail carriers service the EATC region.
